What to Do in Case of Discovery

Intellectual Property Advisory Office

We provide assistance in the issues of intellectual property and technology transfer and commercialization. Alternatively we will contact you with relevant individuals.

Basic Information about the Charles University environment for this area:

According to Act No. 527/1990 Coll. and Dean's Provision No. 12/2020, immediately after achieving of an invention or another potential subject of right to intellectual property (except for trademarks), where the protection of intellectual of property might be considered (further only “invention or other subject of right to intellectual property with commercial potential”), the authors, who are in labour-law relation to the university, are obliged to fill a notice about a discovery or an invention (further only “notice”; more information on the Charles University website, the form can be downloaded here) and to advance it to the dean of a particular faculty (or the director of another compartment). In this phase please contact the Second Faculty’s technology scout already.

If not stated otherwise, the dean of the particular faculty or the director of another compartment will decide and communicate to the authors, whether the university is interested in utilization of the invention or another subject of right to the intellectual property, within three months. The same measure can be taken by the rector if he reserves a written authorisation in the particular case.

Office hours – contact us via e-mail or phone

For information about the procedure of submitting the notice and about the protection of intellectual property please contact the technology transfer scout, Associate Professor Jakub Otáhal, MD, PhD via @email or +420 776 006 339 (alternatively the head of the Department for Science and Research Ing.
