Whether you are actively working on a specific research project, developing an early-stage concept in your mind, or simply interested in knowledge transfer and innovation for your future career—the practical program From Idea to Realization is open to everyone, regardless of your current research stage.
This non-degree lifelong learning course has been prepared by the Centre for Knowledge and Technology Transfer of Charles University (CU TTO) as a safe, inspiring environment to foster innovative thinking, test ideas, and build connections with industry practitioners and investors.
What will you gain from participating?
You will gain hands-on experience navigating the path from a scientific discovery to a real-world product, service, or socially beneficial solution. You will find answers to key questions:
- Applied Impact: How to better formulate the real-world impact of your findings (which will also significantly strengthen your grant proposals)?
- Protecting Results: When and how to protect intellectual property so it does not lose its value before your publication comes out?
- Transfer Pathways at CU: What are the routes to licensing, contract research, or launching a university spin-off?
- Presentation Skills: How to clearly and convincingly explain your research to (non-)academic audiences, grant committe and investors?
Structure of the 6 practical modules:
- Methods for identifying and formulating ideas with real-world application potential (even at an early stage).
- Validating market and societal needs, user mapping, and feasibility testing.
- Accessible fundamentals of intellectual property protection (patents, licenses, copyright) led by CPPT experts.
- Presentation skills training (pitching) with constructive feedback on a 90-second pitch.
- Authentic insights into how spin-offs and startups operate, featuring a venture investor.
