- The Second Faculty of Medicine is part of Charles University in Prague, its history dates back to 1348. From the original single faculty, three faculties were established in Prague in 1953, including the Faculty of Paediatric Medicine. Since 1990 it has been called the Second Faculty of Medicine.
- Our faculty is located on the premises of Motol University Hospital, where most of the clinical teaching takes place in the children's and adult departments. The affiliation with one of the largest and most modern hospitals in Europe allows our faculty to offer comprehensive education in all fields of medicine, enriched with knowledge in specialised fields of paediatric medicine. With more than 72,000 patients per year and 2,410 beds, including 667 paediatric beds, the facilities provide medical professionals with the opportunity to encounter a wide range of patients and diagnoses.
- Some clinical teaching takes place at Na Bulovce Hospital and at the Military University Hospital.
- The teaching of theoretical and preclinical subjects primarily takes place at Plzeňská Campus, located on Plzeňská Street in Motol. The Department of Anatomy and its dissection rooms, completed in 2019 and the newest in the Czech Republic, are equipped with state-of-the-art technology.
- The teaching at the Second Faculty of Medicine emphasises the developmental aspects of human life in health and disease from the prenatal period to old age. Instruction in all disciplines is expanded to include paediatric issues.
- We are one of the smaller faculties in terms of undergraduate student numbers, and this is despite the fact that we are based at one of the largest European hospitals. Our extensive clinical background enables top quality training with a strong emphasis on practical experience.
