How will your application be assessed — and what really matters?

The same principles reflected in the structure and organisation of the programme — namely structured learning, clinical orientation and clear expectations — are also applied in the way applicants are selected. The admission process is designed to assess whether you are prepared for this type of programme and its academic demands.

Applicants are expected to have completed secondary education with a final leaving examination (maturita or equivalent), which constitutes the basic prerequisite for admission. In specific cases, alternative admission pathways may apply.

Assessment focuses on a combination of knowledge, reasoning skills and overall readiness to study medicine.

The written component evaluates your understanding of core scientific subjects relevant to medical studies, as well as your ability to apply this knowledge in a structured and consistent way. Emphasis is placed not on memorisation of isolated facts, but on working accurately with fundamental concepts, recognising relationships and making sound decisions under clearly defined conditions.

For selected applicants, the assessment is complemented by an interview. This part is intended to provide a broader view of your readiness for studying medicine. It offers applicants the opportunity to present their motivation, way of thinking and communication skills. The interview focuses on competencies essential for the medical profession — including the ability to reflect on complex questions, formulate and defend arguments, listen attentively and engage in discussion with respect for different perspectives. You may be asked to explain your reasoning, reflect on your motivation and respond to general questions connected to medicine.

Final decisions

Applicants are ranked based on their overall performance in the admission process. Those with the highest total scores are offered admission, within the capacity of the programme. Each year, the number of available places is limited, and a minimum score threshold is set accordingly. Applicants whose results meet or exceed this threshold are admitted. In specific cases, the Dean of the faculty may review individual outcomes and make additional decisions in line with the overall admission policy.

A detailed description of the entrance examination, including its structure, timing and scoring, is available in the practical section of the admissions process.
