Prof. Marek Babjuk has been appointed Dean of the Second Faculty of Medicine of Charles University. The inauguration ceremony took place on 26 January 2022 in the Patriotic Hall of Carolinum, where he was appointed by the Rector, Prof. Tomáš Zima. The four-year term of office begins on 1 February 2022. Prof. Babjuk, Head of the Department of Urology of the Second Faculty of Medicine, Charles University and Motol University Hospital, succeeds the paediatric neurologist Prof. Vladimír Komárek.

On Wednesday, 26 January 2022, Professor Milena Králíčková – elected in the autumn by the Academic Senate as the next head of Charles University (and first woman rector in its 674 year history), was appointed by President Miloš Zeman at Prague Castle. The ceremony included candidates also from other universities in the Czech Republic. Most, like CU’s Králíčková, will take office at the beginning of next month.

Dr Zuzana Střížová from the Institute of Immunology won, for the second time, the Vlasta Adamová Award for her excellent work in the field of oncology and hematology. The Dean handed it to the scientist on 20 January 2022.
