1) The opening of the Session and Minutes check

 
Ass. MUDr. Ondřej Hrušák, Ph.D. opened the meeting of the academic senate, greeted the present senate members, gave a special welcome to the meeting guests: prof. MUDr. J. Koutecký, DrSc., doc. MUDr. J. Bartůňková, DrSc., doc. MUDr. J. Hercogová, CSc., prof. RNDr. V. Pelouch, CSc., prof. MUDr. J. Šnajdauf, DrSc., doc. MUDr. P. Zoban, CSc. and Ing. E. Kuželová.
 
Minutes of the last meeting were approved without any comments.

 

2) Faculty Directorship Reports

Dean of the Faculty
 

  1. Two students of Bc. study programme of Physiotherapy were admitted after an appeal procedure for the academic year 2003/2004. The reason was a mistake in entrance examination information leaflets. Different point classification was reported in the information brochures.
  2. We commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Faculty this winter semester. All workplaces receive celebrations programmes. The Dean of the Faculty wishes that the employees take an active part in the celebratory events.
  3. According to RUK regulations students cannot be absolved from the fee that has to be paid for exceeding the regular study time.
  4. In answer to frequent requests from Clinics and Departments new furniture will be bought from the financial resources – funds which the Motol University Hospital obtains from the Faculty.
  5. Starting from the new academic year all students get ID cards. These are chip cards provided with personal data, a bar code, a photograph and a signature stripe, with the name of the faculty and a university logo in a hologram form. ID cards will be distributed in Hostivař, the main distribution time for the first year students is from 15. 09. 2003 to 6. 10. 2003 and for the senior students from 7. 10. 2003. International and Ph.D. students studying either in present or external programmes also receive the cards.

  1. 19 applicants were registered for the entrance examinations in London, out of these 8 students are enrolled at the 2nd Medical Faculty.
  2. The next entrance examinations for international students are on the 18th September. There are 19 applicants for these entrance examinations. Other information concerning enrolled international students will be given at the October academic senate meeting.

  1. The Deans Sports Day will take place in Sport Centre in Hostivař on the 15th October 2003 and it is part of the 50th anniversary celebrations. The Vice-dean Mr. Šnajdauf invited students to take an active part in the celebrations. The Sports Day programme is following:

  2. The Vice-dean prof. MUDr. Jiří Šnajdauf, DrSc. presented the senate an application for an appointment of new faculty employees, who were selected on the basis of open competition:

    Result: The academic senate recommended doc. Vajner to be appointed Head of the Institute of Histology and Embryology of the 2nd Medical Faculty.

    The Head of the Institute of Biophysics CU 2nd MF
    For a 2-year term, from 1. 10. 2003 till 30. 9. 2005
    Voting: present: 14

    Result: The academic senate recommended RNDr. Amler to be appointed Head of the Institute of Biophysics of the 2nd Medical Faculty.

 

3) Changes in the admission procedure for the academic year 2004/2005

 
The Vice-dean prof. RNDr. Václav Pelouch, Csc. put forward a proposal to change the admission procedure in the academic year 2004/2005. The given proposal is a result of discussions held with the heads of the particular departments, who participate in the admission procedure. This proposal was approved at a work meeting on 12. 09. 2003.
 
SUGGESTED CHANGES:
 
MASTER´S STUDY PROGRAMME – MEDICINE
 
The admission procedure

will be held on 21st–22nd June 2004. It is a two-stage examination.

  • The first stage of the admission procedure consists of
    a written test in biology, physics, chemistry (75 questions, each guestion is evaluated by 2 points) and another written part which tests the general ability of an applicant for the study of medicine (75 questions, each question is evaluated by 4 points), which tests the ability of logical thinking, understanding a specialised test, ability to read graph data, spatial imagination and a sense to observe details. All applicants shall take these tests.
     
  • The second stage of the admission procedure consists of
    an interview which is taken by the applicants with the best first-stage results, the maximum point score is 100 points. An applicant is interviewed by three members of an examination board, these are regularly members of the pedagogical staff of the Faculty. The applicant draws 2 questions, the applicant should show his/her interest in the chosen field of study, an ability at argumentation skills and defence of his/her own opinion.

Admission to study is derived from the total points scored at both stages.
 
BACHELOR STUDY PROGRAMME – PHYSIOTHERAPY
 
The admission procedure

will be held on 22st–24th June 2004. It is a two-stage examination.

  • The first stage of the admission procedure consists of
    a written test in biology, physics and chemistry (90 questions, each guestion is evaluated by 2 points), all applicants take the written test.
     
  • The second stage of the admission procedure consists of
    an interview – taken by applicants with best results from the first stage. The maximum interview score is 150 points. An applicant is interviewed by three members of the examination board – pedagogical staff of the Faculty. An applicant draws 2 questions, the aim of the interview is to find out if the applicant is interested in the particular field of study and whether he/she has an ability of argumentation and can defend his/her own opinion.

Admission to the study is derived from the total points scored at both stages.

Result: The academic senate members approved the proposal to modify the admission procedure.
 
The Vice-dean Mr. Pelouch put forward a proposal of the Dean´s Commitee concerning the number of admitted students after the admission procedure for the academic year 2004/2005.
After the accreditation commitee have approved the opening of new Bc. programmes, the Faculty directorship will subsequently set the precise number of admitted students.

  • Bachelor´s study programme of Physiotherapy
25 students
  • Master´s study programme of Medicine
185 students

 
Result: Voting (14-0-0), the proposal was approved by the academic senate.
 
The senate members had a discussion concerning exam-free admission of students which have excellent study results at secondary schools. The senate members will discuss this point further.

 

4) Miscellaneous

 

  1. The senate members and the present members of the Dean´s committee discussed thorougly the following issue ‘media publicity carried out by prof. E. Syková concerning autological transplantation of progenotoric cells in patients with medullary injuries’. The above mentioned speakers came to the agreement that the media declaration was in conflict with the correct way of announcing scientific information and was likely to arouse unrealistic expectations by the public. The senate members have not yet voted whether to ask the scientific council of the 2nd MF to comment on the method itself and the following media camapign. The senate asked the chairman to prepare a declaration of the AS CU 2nd MF which would be discussed at the next academic senate meeting.
     
  2. Following a letter from the Chair of the Council of Universities concerning the Act No. 111/1998, the senate members were asked to send their comments and proposals before 30. 09. 2003 to CUN.
     
  3. Changes of the terms of the academic senate meetings during the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the Faculty:

  • The next meeting of the academic senate is on 22. 10. 2003, Wed, from 2.30 p.m., in the small left lecture hall at the Faculty.
  • The Minutes were sent to the Department of Languages on 29. 09. 2003 to be translated to English and sent to the web sites for international students.
