Information about Optional Subjects for Students Registered in the Credit System

A student that is studying under the credit system must, at some point during the entire period of studies in the MD program General Medicine, complete 18 ECTS credits in Optional Subjects (further referred to as ‘VP’).

At our Faculty, one VP is the equivalent of 3 ECTS credits.
Students must therefore complete 6 VPs during the entire period of studies.

These VPs may be completed at any time during the 2nd–6th years of study.
Notwithstanding this, Faculty heads recommend completing 3 VPs during studies in the 4th year and 3 VPs during studies in the 5th year.

If a student has already completed some VPs during their 2nd or 3rd years, they can count on these being included in the total number of VPs that they must complete during their entire period of studies. In future periods of study (the following academic years), the student will complete the remaining number of VPs that they are short of to a total of 18 ECTS credits.

If a student registers and completes VPs at another faculty (which comes into consideration only if prerequisites and corequisites of the selected VP are satisfied), the ECTS credits that this VP has at the other faculty will be granted.
