My Main Concern Is to Increase the Quality of Teaching Especially for the International Students

Dear Fellow Students,

My name is Florian Merkle and since February this year I have been representing the international students in the Academic Senate of the Second Faculty of Medicine. I am in the 4th year of my studies and when I am not studying for an exam I enjoy sports and time with my friends.

The Senate is responsible for overseeing the activities of the Dean and the Faculty in general. Currently it is composed 5 committees: the pedagogical committee, which is concerned mainly with teaching, the social committee, which deals with scholarships as well as other activities, the legal committee, the economic committee and the personal relations committee.

The academic senate does not have any executive power, rather it comes up with suggestions, which are presented to the Dean and other executive boards.

The meetings of the Academic Senate occur once a month and are open to the public. If any of you are interested you are welcome to come to these meetings. The timetable for these meetings is listed here: www.lf2.cuni.cz/en/fakulta/akademicky-senat/the-timetable-of-the-academic-senate-sessions. You can find more information about what the senate does on the faculty website.

I am representing the interests of the international students at the meetings of the Senate. My main concern is to increase the quality of teaching in general and especially for the international students. I am also open to any of your suggestions to improve the studies or any other concerns that the senate might be able to help with. So feel free to contact me any time.
