An essay by Shengxuan Wang, third year, General Medicine.

On the day I began my internship at IKEM, I arrived at the hospital early and was warmly welcomed by Mrs Fabiánová. She was incredibly kind and showed me to the changing room before introducing me to Dr Chlupáč. During the morning ward round, Dr Chlupáč took me to see his patients and patiently explained each case to me in great detail.
Later, he brought me into the operating theatre, where I witnessed a kidney transplant procedure for the first time. Professor Froněk, who performed the surgery, had truly magical hands. I initially thought the operation would take a long time, but to my surprise, it was completed rather swiftly.
Throughout the procedure, Professor Froněk explained each step to me, ensuring I understood the reasoning behind every action. The entire surgical team was incredibly welcoming—one of the nurses even brought me a small stool so I could observe more clearly from a better angle.
After the operation, I asked Professor Froněk a few questions, and he kindly answered them all, despite his serious demeanour during the procedure.
Later, Dr Chlupáč took me to a case discussion meeting, where I gained a deeper understanding of pathology and tumour-related diseases.
That was my wonderful experience at IKEM. For all of this, I would like to thank you once again — I am truly inspired.
