Prof. Shahrokh Shariat, an outstanding doctor and scientist from Vienna Medical University, will have a speech at our Scientific Conference soon. Prof. Vladimír Komárek, the Dean of the Second Faculty of Medicine, explains what the pelican symbolizes in the emblem of the faculty. The interview was prepared by Adam Láznička. Changes in lecture hall occupancy due to the reconstruction of Motol University Hospital’s lecture halls in the 2015/2016 summer semester
For foreign university and college students, who have decided to study in the Czech Republic in the Erasmus programme, Charles University is still the most frequent choice. In the academic year 2013–2014, over 1,300 international students uses this program at our university, which makes Charles University the fifth most popular school among several thousands European universities and colleges participating in the program. The Erasmus results were published by the European Commission.
A whole range of interesting scientific personalities will perform, showmen from the EKG Cabaret will present their literary guests, the panel discussion topic will be ‘Scams in Science’. At the turn of November and December the Second Faculty’s website editor Dr. Petr Andreas spent a week and half at the Communication and Marketing Department at Northumbria University, Newcastle. The following is a short essay about his experience.
On 5 January, the Department of Anatomy released its Answers and Comments to the Students' Evaluation of Anatomy for Year 2014/2015. You can read the article at the faculty website. The faculty is looking forward and the faculty leadership expects this release will not remain alone and the others will publish their comments in a timely manner as well: both on their websites and the faculty website, together with at least a summary in English.
Updated: The Eleventh and Final Chapter. Julia Bayer, a fifth-year student of General Medicine, in November passed the practical subject K10: for ten days she shadowed a doctor she had chosen. On Thursday, December 10, 2015, the Dean awarded the top international students of the Second Faculty.
Drahomír Kolenčík, a fourth-year student, took a part in a two week mission in Malawi, Africa. It was organised by the International Humanity. One chief doctor and four medical students opened consulting offices and treated patients in a newly built hospital in one of the poorest parts of the world.
A five-year student of General Medicine (International), Markéta Tolarová, passed the K-10 course, where she was given the opportunity to shadow a doctor she had chosen according to her favourite specialisation directly at the clinic. She wrote an essay about her experience for our website.
According to the newest ranking compiled by QS, Charles University placed at the third position in the category Emerging Europe and Central Asia, that is, behind Lomonosov Moscow State University and Novosibirsk State University. The next Czech university ČVUT placed 8th, Masaryk University placed 9th. See details on QS here.
The 2nd Faculty of Medicine in Prague has a tradition of preparing an introductory week in which all new students are familiarised with their new home for the next 6 years. The main goal of this week is to form a solid foundation for the students before they officially start their 1st academic year.
