Hands‑On Practical Training and Clinical Placements Across All Years of Study

Our curriculum combines solid theoretical foundations with structured, hands-on experience throughout all six years of study. From early patient contact to advanced clinical placements, students gain practical skills essential for their future medical careers.

Year 1

First bedside visits with a physician, introducing students to patient care.

Year 2

Daily placements in general practitioners’ surgeries (GP practices), gaining insight into primary care.
Summer nursing practice (2 weeks) in adult hospital wards.

Year 3

Summer nursing practice (2 weeks): hands-on experience in patient care, including neonatal and paediatric wards, administering injections, and sample collection.

Year 4

First structured clinical placement (2 weeks) in a hospital department (e.g., surgery, internal medicine, paediatrics).
Summer clinical practice (4 weeks) in a hospital setting in the Czech Republic or abroad.

Year 5

Placement in a medical outpatient clinic (1 week).
Clinical placement in gynaecology and obstetrics (3 weeks).
Summer clinical practice (4 weeks).

Year 6

Extended structured clinical practice (8 weeks) in any chosen specialty at Motol University Hospital or affiliated departments.
Simulation-based clinical training in internal medicine, paediatrics, and surgery, where students act as the “attending physician” providing comprehensive patient care.

Enthralled and More Confident: A Student’s Experience Shadowing a Doctor

A five-year student of General Medicine (International), Markéta Tolarová, passed the K-10 course, where she was given the opportunity to shadow a doctor she had chosen according to her favourite specialisation directly at the clinic. She wrote an essay about her experience for our website.
