If you completed your previous education outside the Czech Republic, your documents must go through two steps:
- Assessment – the faculty evaluates whether your education meets the requirements for admission
- Authentication (legalisation) – your documents may need to be verified by your school or officially legalised by authorities to confirm their authenticity
In most cases, you can submit your documents directly to the faculty, which then assesses your education. In some cases, authentication must be completed before submission.
Assessment
What you need to do:
- Your education is usually assessed directly by the faculty
- This process is simpler and faster than full nostrification
- You do not need to contact Czech authorities in most cases
We strongly recommend using faculty assessment.
How to have your education assessed by the faculty
You will need to pay an assessment fee (see below; except for IB and EB) and submit:
- Completed online application form (via the SIS system, see tutorial)
- Proof of secondary education – usually an authenticated copy of your certificate and transcript (except for IB, EB, A-levels and some other systems – see "Special cases" below)
Documents not issued in Czech, English, or Slovak must be officially translated. The translation must be officially attached to the original document.
If needed, the faculty may ask for additional documents (further details about your education, confirmation that your school is authorised, a statement that your diploma allows access to university studies in your country).
Once your documents are ready, submit them in one of the following ways:
Special cases – IB, EB, A-levels and some other systems (Verified directly by your school)
IB diploma (International Baccalaureate)
If you hold an IB diploma, the process is usually simpler than the standard process for most applicants. You can ask your school to send your results directly to Charles University, which typically replaces the need for further legalisation. If your school sends the results digitally this way, you do not need to submit any hard copies by post or in person. No fees apply.
EB diploma (European Baccalaureate)
If you hold an EB diploma, you send your completed online application form (via the SIS system) and an authenticated copy of your diploma. No fees apply.
A-levels (UK and international)
If you have completed A-levels, your qualifications can often be verified directly through your school or examination board. In some cases, your school may send your results directly to the faculty or provide official verification. Depending on the form of verification, additional legalisation and physical submission may not be required.
Other national systems
Some national education systems may also allow direct online verification. These options depend on the specific institution and may not be available in all cases.
- United Arab Emirates may allow online verification (otherwise superlegalisation is required)
- US secondary schools may allow online verification via Parchment
Submit in person (recommended)
- Bring the required documents with you on the day of your entrance examination – if you already have them.
Submit by post (if submitting hard copies)
- Send hard copies of the required documents to the faculty address:
Charles University, Second Faculty of Medicine
V Úvalu 84
150 06 Prague 5
Czech Republic - Deadline: Documents must be delivered no later than 31 August 2026
- Documents cannot be submitted electronically (email or upload)
Assessment fee
The fee for the assessment of foreign education is 990 CZK. You can pay in one of the following ways:
Pay by credit card (recommended)
- Paying online by credit card via the SIS system is fast and convenient.
1/ Log into your SIS account
2/ Navigate to the “Proof of Education” tab
3/ Click the blue button “Pay 990 CZK fee by card”
Pay by bank transfer (alternative)
- If needed, you can also pay via bank transfer:
Account number: 37530021/0100
IBAN: CZ34 0100 0000 0000 0375 3002 1
SWIFT: KOMB CZ PP
→ Once your documents are received (either physically or digitally from your school) and the fee is paid, your documents will be assessed and your status updated accordingly.
Authentication of documents
There are several types of authentication – most applicants only need an apostille or less.
Step 1 – Identify your country group
Choose the option that applies to the country where your documents were issued.
Option 1 – No further authentication required
Applies to countries with a legal agreement with the Czech Republic. No further authentication is required. You can submit original documents or officially certified copies.
States which have entered into a legal aid agreement with the Czech Republic: Afghanistan, Albania, Algeria, Austria, Belgium, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Montenegro, France, Georgia, Yemen, Croatia, People’s Republic of Korea, Cuba, Cyprus, Kyrgyzstan, Hungary, Macedonia/FYROM, Moldova, Mongolia, Poland, Romania, the Russian Federation, Greece, Slovakia, Slovenia, Serbia, Syria, Spain, Switzerland, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Vietnam.
Option 2 – Authenticated copy may be sufficient
Applies to EU countries, Norway, the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. For these countries, an apostille (or superlegalisation in the case of Canada) may be replaced with an authenticated copy. This applies only if at least one of the following conditions is met:
- The school confirms by email that you have successfully completed your studies
- Your school sends your transcript or diploma supplement directly to the faculty (or you submit it in a sealed envelope)
- Your education can be verified online through the official website of your school (e.g. by accessing your transcript or records)
Option 3 – Apostille required (most common)
For most countries, you need an apostille issued by an authorised authority.
Documents from the following states must be authenticated in the form of apostille: Andorra, Antigua and Barbuda, Argentina, Armenia, Australia, Azerbaijan, the Bahamas, Bahrain, Barbados, Belize, Bolivia, Botswana, Brazil, Brunei Darussalam, Burundi, Cook Islands, Chile, China – only Hong Kong and Macao (legalisation is required in the case of other territories of China), Denmark, Democratic Republic of São Tomé and Príncipe (from 15 July 2008), Dominica, Dominican Republic (authentication by Apostille clause from 30 August 2009), Ecuador, Estonia, Fiji, Finland, French territories (i.e., French Polynesia, the French Territory of the Afars and the Issas, Guadeloupe, Guyana, Komodo Islands, Martinique, New Caledonia, Réunion, Saint Pierre and Miquelon, Wallis and Futuna), Grenada (from 7 April 2002 – up to this date it was covered under Great Britain), Guatemala, Honduras, India, Ireland, Iceland, Italy, Israel, Japan, Republic of South Africa, Kazakhstan, Colombia, Republic of Korea (South Korea), Kosovo, Costa Rica, Lesotho, Liberia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Latvia, Luxembourg, Malawi, Malta, Morocco, Marshall Islands, Mauritius, Mexico, Monaco, Namibia, Germany, Niue, the Netherlands and its territories (i.e., the Netherlands Antilles, Aruba), Norway, New Zealand, Oman, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Portugal, Salvador, Samoa, San Marino, the Seychelles, Suriname, Saint Lucia, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Swaziland, Sweden, Tajikistan, Tonga, Trinidad and Tobago, Turkey, Uruguay, the United States of America and its territories (i.e., American Samoa, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands of the United States), Great Britain and its territories (i.e., Jersey, the Bailiwick of Guernsey, the Isle of Man, Anguilla, Bermudas, British Antarctic Territory, British Virgin Islands, British Solomon Islands, Cayman Islands, Falkland Islands, Gibraltar, Montserrat, Saint Helena, South Georgia and South Sandwich Islands, Turks and Caicos Islands), Vanuatu, and Venezuela.
Option 4 – Superlegalisation required
Applies to selected countries without apostille agreements. A more complex process is required:
- verification by your national authorities
- verification by a Czech embassy
Documents from the following states must be superlegalised: United Arab Emirates (if not verified online)
Before submitting documents, make sure you have:
- completed the SIS application
- paid the 990 CZK fee (if required)
- prepared authenticated copies (if required)
- obtained apostille/superlegalisation (if required)
