For the first time, the Centre for the Development of Communication and Pedagogical Competences at the Second Faculty of Medicine offered a practical doctor-patient communication workshop for students enrolled in the international medical programmes.
Through two simulation-based scenarios, students had the opportunity to step into the role of the physician and practise communicating with patients in challenging mental health situations, including burnout and acute psychosis.
The workshop focused on skills that are central to clinical practice: building trust, active listening, responding to distress, communicating clearly, and fostering co-operation even in complex encounters. Students took part in the simulations, reflected together during the debriefing, asked thoughtful questions, and shared their own perspectives and experiences.
We were delighted by their active participation and the strong interest they showed in developing communication skills that are just as important as clinical knowledge. We are already looking forward to creating more opportunities for students to practise, reflect and grow as future doctors.
