Department of Cardiovascular Surgery

Departmental Focus:

Surgical treatment of cardiovascular disease in adults. Cardiac surgery is focused mainly on ischemic heart disease and its complications, degenerative defects of cardiac valves, and surgical treatment of congenital heart defects in adults. Vascular surgery is specialized for patients with combined diseases of the cardiovascular system. The department provides cardiac surgical back up (cardiopulmonary bypass) and the programme of lung transplantation, which is run by the 3rd Department of Surgery and Transplantation Center.

Research and scientific activities are focused on the treatment of ischemic heart disease, perioperative protection of myocardium, substitution and repair of cardiac valves, aneurysms of the thoracic aorta, as well as on congenital heart defects in adulthood.
